The Pivot Point Academy Salon is a main-stay of Lonsdale street culture. Its doors have been open for business for 15 years and many of the clientele have been coming into the city to our salon  for almost as long. Buoyed by the vibrant atmosphere, it is here that students put into practice their studies under close supervision of their mentors.

The salon has 30 workstations, clean modern décor, and a high end range of La Biosthetique products. The guidance of our experiences staff ensures that clients are rewarded with the highest level of customer service and a delightful experience.

I have been visiting the salon for many many years and this is the first time I have been disappointed. I was supposed to have a 'block' hair cut which did not happen, I was not checked by the supervisor at the completion and one side of my hair was over an inch longer that the other. I asked the student to have the supervisor check but she said she already had. She was in a hurry.. apparently she had not used this salon floor before and had none of her own equipment. She wore her coat the whole time as though she needed to be somewhere else. Apparently she works at xxxxxx, I do not think she knows the steps to take to cut a 'block'. If this service was part of her exams then I think she needs more practical work.

Only that the educator didn't spend much time supervising. Also, being forced to pay upfront wasn't great either. Love to new support for recycling and zero-footprint etc.

Rolf was not very good at following educator (or client) instructions. He seemed very timid and didn't give me much confidence. I asked for his suggestions, creative and professional, and apart from specifying I didn't wish to lose too much overall length, and asked for input about the tint but he simply didn't/wasn't able to step up. He played it super safe and really gave me no guidance at all. He did not re-style at all and just trimmed the last haircut. Examples of not following instructions - he was told to do the tint all at once (not roots then length) but didn't do as instructed. It resulted in not enough development time on the lengths and the dye was uneven. He didn't do anything to shape around my face, and when the instructor came and guided him, he simply didn't do as told and ended up cutting one side too short and his technique for cutting in was really bad! So whilst the result wasn't terrible, I would not trust Rolf to be my stylist and don't think he's even close to ready to be independent.

You get what you paid for, and in this place it's not different. I had a hair colour and the results were quite good, I can say I'm a bit impressed as it costed me about 30% of what I was paying in the salon I was usually going. However a bit of courtesy would be appreciated. The girl made no effort in connect, I saw she had a questionnaire to use but no questions were made to me - despite which colour I would like. I sneakily had a look while she was doing other things and saw some of her "analysis" were wrong, and no advice at all was given. The cherry of the cake is that she apparently had to leave and just after wash my hair was in a rush. She didn't check the colour, asked if it was to my liking, nothing. Just let me there in the chair and said someone else would finish the service. Anyway, it's a good option if you are on a budget and is not very handy with supermarket tints, but don't expect a great attitude.
